"He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke with the following date with tears, but he said what matters most of all was the dash between those years... For it matters not, how much we own, the cars... the house... the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash." -Linda Ellis
About Me
My dream is to work with people. My desire comes from being social and enjoying being around others, and my determination comes from wanting to be successful, happy and live my dash to the fullest. My name is Olivia McEvoy and I am a student in the EDGE program at Legend High School in Parker, Colorado. This is me...
I am a student, daughter, sister and friend. I love photography, travel, new experiences, and the outdoors. Growing up, I've learned to be well rounded in all aspects of life. I am light-hearted and hardworking, and doing anything to the best of my ability has always been important to me. Once I set my mind on something, I will work hard to achieve it. I am the kind of person who loves life and everything it has to offer. I grew up playing many sports; volleyball, skiing, and hiking however are the three where I have found my passion. As long as I can remember, I have been a traveler. With friends and family, one of my biggest joys in life comes from seeing new places and exploring. Whether it is a hike in Parker, or a beach in a different country, I am always excited for adventure! Travel is something that I absolutely fell in love with at a very young age. Learning about new cultures and seeing all the beautiful sights is one of my biggest interests.
There is so much to life that I am fond of - adventures, new experiences, meeting new people, and enjoying all of the little moments. In all of these things there's one thing I have found in common - I relish being around people while encountering new life experiences. This is why I have found a passion for a career as a physician assistant because being able to work with others, help them and support them is what makes me truly happy. Creating bonds, making new connections, and helping others are what I've had a strong love for since I was young.
My academic career took off after graduating from Cimarron Middle School. I was looking for new opportunities, a challenge, and something which would prepare me for college and new experiences. My dream is to go to an amazing college that provides me with the ability to study something that I’m passionate about, and gives me new life experiences. As an 8th grader, I learned about the EDGE program at Legend High School. The EDGE program is a non-traditional way of learning which seeks to challenge traditional education, and its purpose is to allow students the opportunity to explore and pursue their own passions. And when I first considered the EDGE opportunity, I was skeptical. Yet, it turned out to be something that I love. I was stubborn and courageous when I decided to apply for this program because everyone told me I shouldn’t join. I still believed that being in EDGE would be a good choice, so I decided to go against what everyone said and follow what I thought was in my best interest. In the beginning, it was very challenging. I had to make new friends, get used to the new way of learning, and overcome other’s opinions of the program. However, with support from my amazing mentors (EDGE faculty), parents, and close friends, I am thriving and have done things that I never thought possible. EDGE has provided many opportunities and experiences that I would not have received in a traditional school track.
EDGE has given me the chance to go on life-changing field trips and job shadows where I’ve learned more about business operations and careers that are of interest to me. EDGE encourages students to explore different careers and pathways after high school and helps set up internships with desired careers and/or companies. EDGE has encouraged me to go outside my comfort zone, I did so by joining the Legend DECA program and now I am a DECA officer and a leader. I have also joined the Student Advisory Group for Douglas County School District where we look at how to better our schools. By being in this program, I have had so many accomplishments, and I have made life-long friends and learned so much about myself as not only a person, but a learner.
