Final Product of Metaphor Machine
Process to Make Metaphor Machine
Reflection About Metaphor Machines
During this project, the first step was to come up with our topic. The topic had to be something that had changed over time; thus, making a difference in the lives of the people who were affected by the topic, as well as their societies. I chose to do my metaphor machine project on the American Revolution. I chose this because I have always had an interest in history and how things came to be. After we chose our topic, we created our gear blueprints. We chose the number of gears we wanted based on the number of major changes in our topic. I ended up with six gears. We had an outline to follow to do the math to design the gears and how big each one is. We solved for the circular pitch for the first gear, and had to keep that the same for the rest of the gears. We had to work backwards to do this because if we did not keep them the same then the teeth on the gears would not be able to fit and work together. After doing and drawing the gears on paper, we transferred them into InDesign and added the teeth. We put them together and were able to print them out with their titles on them. Then, I did research on my topic and found sources to go with each gear and topic. We wrote an abstract to go on our boards with our gears. It was a basic and short paragraph of all of our research that we had done. In addition to that, we created a sparkpage. The sparkpage was a more fun way to display all of our work. We had to include our research, the science background of gears, math blueprints, and visuals. One of the last things that we did was film our ted talks. We had to write our speech, and then we had to try and memorize all of it and record it. My ted talk was a speech about my topic, the changes that took place which led to modernization, the paradigm shift, and an explanation of how it was a conflict theory. The paradigm shift was the major change from a monarchy government to a republican/democratic government. It was a conflict theory because everything happened fast and it was violent. We also made a children's book. I did mine in French instead of Spanish. I thought it was fun to create these and even though it was stressful at times is came out amazing. During my process, I had a few struggles but I learned how to persevere and problem solve. I learned from the mistakes I made and the problems I faced.
