Reflection About Emergency Response
The Emergency Response intensive project was an informational and research based interdisciplinary unit. It was a lot of learning new information about governments, demographics, natural disasters, and restoration and recovery plans. We started off by getting with an assigned partner and picking a country as well as three common occurring natural disasters in that area. My partner and I chose Miami, Florida, and our three disasters were tornados, sinkholes, and hurricanes. After deciding on that, we learned about the climate, geography, history, governments, etc... of our city. Then, we did more research on our three disasters, and the science behind how those occur and what climate change has an affect on them. For the math portion, we looked at the financial side of things and how much a disaster can cost, and what it takes to rebuild and come back after a natural disaster. After doing a lot of research and writing, we were able to put all of our information into an Emergency Response Plan that we created ourselves for our chosen city. Then, we created a preparedness pamphlet, in both English and French, that could have potentially been handed out, and a radio commercial, also in both English and French, that could be played in case of a hurricane warning.
